Large House Needlepoint Kit from Photo

Last week we designed and made a needlepoint kit for a stitcher who’s son recently purchased a new home.

The size she wanted to stitch was 23 inches by 13 inches.  The tricky part was that she could not get the two doors of the house to show up in the same image.  She emailed me 4 images, and I took two of the angles that I thought would work, and stitched them together.

It came out looking muddy due to the colors and lighting of the day, so after reviewing it with her, we decided I would “touch up” the canvas to make it easier to stitch.  The touch up included removing the grill and trash cans, along with a lot more things she didn’t think were needed.  We even added a new sky above the house.  After sending her the touched up preview, she loved it!  She received the canvas and was thrilled, which is always nice to hear  🙂

Two New Needlepoint Belts

We worked on two more needlepoint belt projects, and they came out really well.  We’ve titled these Whisky and Gunpowder and Air School.  I can’t wait to see them finished!

You will also notice that we added a new section to our Personalized Needlepoint Shop.

This week NeedlePaint.com has launched a new needlepoint belt web page. Needlepoint belts have long been a favorite for men and women who love traditional style belts. NeedlePaint is taking this a step further by allowing stitchers to create their own custom style for their belts.

The new web page features exclusive designs that can incorporate space for a custom monogram. Customers can also request color changes and even design element changes.

Starting out with 3 new designs, there are many more in the works. The belt canvases are also available as needlepoint kits which come with matched DMC floss. The needlepoint canvases are typically designed on 18 mesh canvas.

If you have an idea for a belt, please contact NeedlePaint and they will be happy to help design your own custom needlepoint belt. Belt canvases start at $51.25 and all customers will be given a digital preview for approval before their canvases are made.

Great Needlepoint Picture Frames and Design Ideas

Often people ask what size their needlepoint canvas should be for their project.  We recommend sizes that are commonly available in stores as picture frames.  This project was one of them, and the customer created needlepoint designs to fit in 8 x 10 inch picture frames.

We shipped two custom needlepoint kits to her, and what I really love, is how she used a multiple image frame for the one with her boy  The second photo has less reflection and show her needlepoint much better.  Simple custom needlepoint designs look great!

In case you are wondering, the most common frame sizes are:

For Rectangles:  5 x 7, 6 x 8, 8 x 10, 8.5 x 11, 9 x 12, 11 x 14

For Squares:  8 x 8, 10 x 10, and 12 x 12

Beautifully Stitched Tiger Needlepoint Canvas

A while back, a customer contacted us about our tiger needlepoint canvas that we sell on etsy (look at our “animal” needlepoint section).  They loved the design, but prefer work on 12 mesh and wanted a much larger design to make a needlepoint pillow.

We ended up making a 15 inch wide by 11.25 inch high custom needlepoint canvas.  Since the customer prefers to stitch with wool, we included 1 skein of each color matched to the original photo, to help her purchase the correct colors from her local shop.

Horse Needlepoint Pillow Canvases

We were recently contacted by a horse lover to help her design needlepoint pillows for her house.

Well, she was actually only looking to buy one pillow, but she liked both designs so much, we ended up doing two needlepoint canvases!

We started with the words: “Horses are who we are not what we do”

That, and she was looking for a clean “Ralph Lauren” feeling design. Below are two options we emailed to her.

The customer loved the first option, but after seeing the prancing horse, she mentioned that she had been looking for a custom needlepoint canvas with a horse jumping over an oxer for years.   This project took a bit more effort, as first I had learn what an oxer was (the first try was not an option, as the form was bad, and the picture is actually a vertical single fence)

The second attempt took more skill in the digital design, using photoshop.  But, this one came out perfect.  The best part of the project is that I was watching the Olympics equestrian team jumping and knew exactly what they were talking about!  The horses are amazing!

The canvases came out so well, I wanted to be sure you got see them.  Also note, that we added an extra 3 stitches around the sides so when this gets turned into a pillow, the design will not be cropped.

Really Cute Dog Needlepoint Kit

We made a new needlepoint kit for a friend, and I just have to share it.

Our friend is a photographer and shared this picture of his dog, and look at how well the dog needlepoint canvas came out!

Palm Coast Needlepoint Belt Design

We made a new needlepoint design last week, again for a belt.  It seems our recent blog on needlepoint belts has really drawn some interest in more custom designed belt needlepoint canvases.

The project was pretty simple, the customer wanted to stitch a monogram belt for her husband.  When we spoke, she mentioned that they have two kids and recently moved to Florida.  I got the idea to add two palms to represent the kids and sent her the preview, she loves it!  The canvas came out really well, see below…

Needlepoint Dog Days of Summer

It has been HOT in Denver, real hot, so hot I think we broke almost every record…  So dog gawn hot!  Our pooches have been enduring in the work shop with lots of cool water, and sleeping.

Well, that is not really what this post is about.  I just had to share the lovely dog needlepoint canvases we made this week!  The dog needlepoint kits were all made from photos, so why not try to stitch your own dog?

Double Mesh Penelope Needlepoint Kit

This custom needlepoint kit project came in last week, and is being flown half way around the world!  The customer contacted us to see if we can do our stitch counted needlepoint process from a photo of artwork from a museum in Paris.

Lucky for us, we have just started experimenting with penelope canvas (sometimes known as double mesh) and found that while not as good as mono, it does come out pretty well.  See the attached images!

The issue to be aware of with the stitch counted needlepoint on penelope canvas is that we can’t single out the petit point stitches.  But, this was OK for our past few customers as they just prefer to work on penelope canvas and said they will add small details if they think it is needed.
