Creative NeedlePaint Customer Embellishes “Queen of Hearts”

I love opening a new email, to find a fabulous new creation, stitched by one of our NeedlePaint customers!  Recently Brenda T. in Georgia, sent a request for NeedlePaint to design another playing card canvas similar to the Queen of Hearts needlepoint pillow canvas she has just finished stitching.

Brenda’s finished needlepoint canvas has gone way beyond the basic. She uses a variety of stitches and is embellishing with beads!

Brenda says, “she will study the stitch book for days and try out one or two stitches to see if they work well.” She has taken workshops to learn how to embellishing using beads as well as victorian silk ribbon.

I think Brenda’s life time love of textiles and textures really shines through in her needlepoint work! Her creative background began after receiving her first sewing machine, a hand crank Singer, on her 6th Christmas. She went on to study at Virginia Tech, with a degree in Clothing and Textiles, and has sewed most all of her clothes. Although she never used her degree while working full-time for IBM, after retiring she did help friends with some interior design projects. She’s dabbled in knitting, watercolors, silk painting and has made sixteen or more needlepoint stockings for all of her grandchildren, grand nieces and nephews.

Now Brenda joins workshops at her local senior center. She enjoys the other women who sign up each time, with a solid core group of six or so. They help each other, learning to embellish with beads and ribbons, and have a variety of talents and abilities. She feels like this workshop has taken her needlepointing to a new level, and mentions that she might take up designing a pattern or two.

We’ve just finished Brenda’s request for a new Queen of Spades canvas, and can’t wait to see what she does with this queen. Wouldn’t it be fun to put these two pillows at opposite ends of your sofa, perhaps with a King in between! Which card would you pick to stitch?

This time of year I become very anxious for signs of spring and some fresh new color. The “winter like” weather still teases us with one warm beautiful sunny day, only to wake up the next day, with blizzard like conditions.

Spring is full of new beginnings! Why not learn how to needlepoint or teach a beginner how to needlepoint. If you’re a veteran stitcher, learn a new stitch or try a new type of thread. Here at NeedlePaint, we have needlepoint projects for all skill levels.

NeedlePaint Perfection — A Beginner Shares Her Creation!

About two weeks ago we featured customizing our Fun Kids Name needlepoint pillow canvas. Much to our surprise this week, at NeedlePaint we received the most beautiful photos of what Paula from Pittsburg, created with not just one, but two canvases with this design!

Paula created this tote for her personal use; featuring her grandchildren’s first names. She is using it to carry around her sewing projects. Take a close look at the front and back of this tote, as Paula has used different colors on each side, not to mention she sewed and finished this tote herself.

Paula has been sewing since the age of five, and learned from the best . . . . her grandmothers were both creative seamstresses and taught her how to sew doll clothes. She has been sewing her own clothes since she was in the ninth grade, and also loves embroidery, cross-stitch, knitting and crochet.

WOW! I found out this was Paula’s first needlepoint project. She will add needlepoint to her list of crafting, but would like to try a different project next time. “I like trying things I’ve never done before”.

Great Gift Ideas for Grandparents

Our English Bulldog Needlepoint Kits Are Packed Full Of Personality!

It is probably no surprise to you, that here at NeedlePaint we love our dogs! They are all so different in size, shape, and personality; and the perfect inspiration for designing new dog themed needlepoint kits, such as belts, pillows, wallets, and flasks. It’s hard to pick a favorite dog breed, but I would have to say the English Bulldog is definitely one of my favorites. This dog is clever, devoted and has so much personality both in physical appearance and attitude. There is a lot of love in all of those wrinkles!

We’ve designed this English Bulldog needlepoint belt canvas with three perfectly playful poses. 

This breed of dog has a special spot in my heart, after once dog sitting my next door neighbors English Bulldog. This dog was getting on in years and I know her people were a little nervous about leaving, as she did everything with them. I would check in several times a day, and by day three, I could tell she desperately missed her people. It didn’t look as though she had been sleeping in her bed, but on the rug by the front door. I decided to bring a book with me on my next visit, found a comfortable spot next to her bed and began to read out loud. Two hours later, I think she enjoyed the book as much as I did or maybe having someone nearby was the remedy. Finally falling asleep in her bed, I could tell she was comfortable and content by the rhythmic snoring that was taking place. Her people came back the next day, and life was back to normal for this sweet old English Bulldog. I wouldn’t have guessed that this dog would have left such a special spot in my heart, but she did.

Personalize a Nautical Flag Needlepoint Pillow For Your Family

I’ve driven by the same local shopping center for over twenty years. When they first moved in, I thought their nautical theme a bit strange as we are located in “landlocked” Denver. Not a location where serious boating happens, but a place where family time is spent skiing down the slopes of the Rocky Mountains. This shopping center’s sign proudly displayed their name “Marina Pointe” flanked with colorful graphic squares, of which I assumed had something to do with boating. I didn’t think much more about this sign, until I noticed all of the nautical belts that customers order here at NeedlePaint. As the placement of these flags varied, I soon realized they were spelling out a message, not just randomly placed; and then the idea for a personalized nautical flag needlepoint pillow began.

After further exploration (and some help from Seth’s sailing expertise), I discovered these colorful nautical signal flags began before short wave radio, as an easy and safe way to relay messages to other boats and people on shore. Each of these flags represents a letter of the alphabet or a phrase.

Once you are done with your needlepoint, we’d love to help.  We offer a solid back with a hidden zipper (or no zipper on 8 inches or smaller), and can do piping or no piping.  We include a removable pillow form on pillows that have a zipper.  For the backing and piping, we have 20 colors of velvet to choose from.
