Custom Needlepoint Pillows

We are making custom needlepoint pillows!

These two pillows were just finished and look great!

You can look at our website for some of our modern needlepoint designs, personalized needlepoint designs, or if you’d prefer us to make a custom pillow with your own design, we’d love to do that.

Both pillows in this photo are stitched using wool, and are on 12 mesh canvas.  Prices for ring bearer pillows start at $100 and for 14 x 14 inch pillows start around $160.  We go by the number of stitches and size.

For photo pillows, the maximum number of colors is 14, but we’re happy to help design the pillow for you, just email us the photo along with your ideas, and we’ll put together a preview for you.  (Photo pillows are more expensive than the normal, by typically $40-$60 depending on the design)

Of course, if you’d prefer to stitch your own needlepoint canvas, we’d be happy to help with the needlepoint design, and also offer a pillow finishing service.

Colorful Stained Glass Window Designs

I love stained glass and the beauty that is brings to a church, home, any type of building.  So I decided to try to create one of those light filled designs in a needlepoint pillow.    Here in Chicago, I have discovered some great stained glass windows, especially at the Smith Museum of Stained Glass on Navy Pier.  If you ever visit us check it out!  But, in the mean time stitch your own with one of our needlepoint kit designs.  You can create that stained glass look by stitching it to a canvas.

This pillow would work nicely to accent stained glass in a room or add some color to a neutral space. You can find in on Needlepaint.com under VIEW MORE NEEDLEPOINT KITS.  We have a couple different color choices, but you can always personalize the color to flow in your space!

Where’s the Color Come From?

We have some new needlepoint designs that use similar color choices and that is every bit intentional!  I like to get color concepts and trends from historic, vintage and even ancient art.  So here’s a bit about where the color is coming from this week…

The latest needlepoint pillow kits use the same color seen in ancient Turkish Iznik art.  Cobalt blue, red, and white are the main colors used and these beautiful designs.   The Iznik design can be seen tiled above doors and painted on pottery.   Sometimes lighter shades of blue and a bit of green are added into the mix, making a balanced blend of bright colors.  We loved the intricacy of the patterns in Iznik art and the colors seem to pop nicely for an accent pillow!

These designs are even seen  adorning walls, walkways and doors.  I thought it could be quite fun and challenging to try to stitch one of these in needlepoint.  Below is Needlepaint’s take on the Iznik color.  Enjoy!

Quilt Designs Look Great in Needle Point Too!

Our latest needlepoint kit is a deconstructed quilt.  The geometry of quilt designs can be very inspiring for art work and shape patterns.  I decided to try it on a pillow and it turned out quite nice!  Turn your favorite quilt into a custom needlepoint canvas and make a pillow to match your bedroom.  Or just use our pre-made design and maybe even make a quilt to complement.  A colorful pillow can add some eclectic flare to your room and give it a warm inviting feel.

This beautiful pillow is part of our bargello series, but may be the start of a quilt inspired series.  Give us your feedback!  Time to start stitching!!

Patchwork Bargello Needlepoint Kit

Bargello Pillows

Who knew this funky popular 60’s design originated in Italy with a line of chairs.  The Bargello castle in Florence, Italy housed these beautiful patterns first designed by Hungarian stitchers in the 17th century.  The long lines work perfectly for needlepoint pillows and prove to be a challenging stitch.

Pillows work as a perfect canvas to express these Bargello designs and beautiful colors.    The needlepoint patterns often mimics a wave or flame but of course more geometrically in needle point.  I have been working on designs that utilize colors that will work in a modern home but pay homage to the beautiful art form.

The image  below shows the antique version of Bargello in a wall covering.

Add some spice to your room and get stitching with these designs.  These pillow designs can be found on Needle Paint.  They work well alone or paired together. The colors can be changed out to accomodate your room or season.  The color pallette I chose for this pairing is a fall medley.

Stay tuned for new designs from Needle Paint!  We have been at the drawing board and will have something new for you each week!

New Modern Needlepoint Pillow Designs!

We have added more needlepoint kits to our website including some modern needlepoint designs!

This one is a contemporary geometric pattern.  This Tulare needlepoint pillow design is inspired from a vintage furniture book showing chair textile patterns.  I have shown it in a smaller application on a seat cover below.  Also, check out the larger pattern on a pillow application!  This accent pillow would go beautifully on a white or tan bed coverlet or sofa.  It gives any room a excellent modern touch.

Beautifully Stitched Tiger Needlepoint Canvas

A while back, a customer contacted us about our tiger needlepoint canvas that we sell on etsy (look at our “animal” needlepoint section).  They loved the design, but prefer work on 12 mesh and wanted a much larger design to make a needlepoint pillow.

We ended up making a 15 inch wide by 11.25 inch high custom needlepoint canvas.  Since the customer prefers to stitch with wool, we included 1 skein of each color matched to the original photo, to help her purchase the correct colors from her local shop.

Really, this blog is about the stitching, not the words, so check out her work!

Please note, we do often adjust color palates to match animals better, so if you notice any colors you want adjusted with a design you are thinking about ordering, just let us know and we’ll be sure we make them.
